To Quote Yazz ......

The only way is up!!!

Firstly, lost another 800g as at Friday. That's 4.8kg in 3 weeks and takes me from 112.2 to 107.4kg. Yay. Moving on.

The day after my last post Blair got a letter in the mail saying "thanks but no thanks" for the job he was desperately waiting to hear about. It gutted him to say the least.

Then after a tumultuous week of trying to decide what we were going to do ....

on Friday he gets a phone call at work from the HR Admistrator for the job he'd missed out on.

"Hi Blair, I understand you would have received a letter last week saying you missed out on the job, well, we'd now like to offer you that positions, dependant on a successful medical and drug test and after confirmation of your referees."

Of course, Blair is through the roof happy.

He is stressing a wee bit though. Blair and I are very occassional pot smokers. Let's just say that a small amount would last us near on a year. Blair hadn't had any for ages and then, when he got the letter that he'd missed out he had a few drinks that Friday night and later on, decided to have a wee smoke. Of course now he is stressing his butt off that he is going to fail the pre employment urine test. Me, I don't think it should be a big issue. He is only a very occassional smoker, surely it will be out of his system after 13 days. Surely???

Anyone know the ins and outs of this sort of thing??

And please don't judge us if this is not your cup of tea, we all have our ways of living our lives, if we aren't harming you, please don't condemn us.

Excellent loss Jules. Almost at your first 5kg!! That's exciting :) Not too long and you'll be blogging about going under 100!

I would think the pot would be out of his system, but hopefully someone else reading would know for sure. Some workplaces test fairly regularily, so I would tend to think it doesnt hang around in your system. It doesnt seem fair though, what you do in your own time is your business, not their's. I thought they just tested when you turned up to work....

""""when you ask “How long does marijuana stay in your system?” you have to realize that it’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to get a usable answer. The most common period of time is anywhere from 3-30 days, depending on your metabolism and the amount of marijuana that you’ve smoked. This is unfortunate, since it means that while most drug tests can only turn up evidence of other drugs if you’ve been taking the drug within a few days of the drug test, marijuana could still be detected in a urine test up to a month after the last time it is used. If you smoke it occasionally it will remain in your system for up to 10 days. If you smoke marijuana on a regular basis it will stay in your system for as long as 45 days, and if you smoke marijuana at a constant pace, it can stay in the body for 90 days, Marijuana is fat soluble. It stores in the fat cells of the body, the brain, the liver, the kidneys, in other words the major organs. """"

Fingers crossed, it'd be a real pisser if he missed out because of that! I've never heard of drug testing for jobs in Aus before (a few friends in the states have had it done) - or is it for the visa or something?

My brother works for State Transit as a heavy vehicle body builder and is tested all the time. They have random tests every other day.

I have no idea how long it stays in your system so that's no help is it?

:(

On the topic of drugs - may I point you towards Bluelight - international harm minimisation forum. I've found this link should answer most of your questions.
http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=52814

You can hunt around on there some more for other information if you like. Bluelight and Erowid are the best sources about drugs on the web that are not biased.

Good luck - I hope Blair passes the test and gets the job :-)

Weed stays in your organs longer than in your blood. It can take up to a month for one dose of it to leave your body, depending on how much has been used.
I'm pretty sure that Blair will be ok after 13 days of non-smoking though. If it is a urine test he should be fine.
Good luck to your other half, that's a great lucky break :)

Jules,
That's awesome about the loss, and the job offer!

About the testing thing, my dear husband used to be tested every month for that stuff, and did occasionally imbibe in the green, and it never showed up.

Hi Jules,

In regards to the pot, I have been told that it depends on the test they use. The test that they did at my old job would still give a reading after a month (up to 6 weeks) but I'm not an expert in this area but was told this was the case.

Also a friends hubby applied to work at the power company and failed his drug test after not using for just over three weeks, so they must still be able to detect. I have cut and pasted the following from a reputable website.

“How long does marijuana stay in your system?” you have to realize that it’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to get a usable answer. The most common period of time is anywhere from 3-30 days, depending on your metabolism and the amount of marijuana that you’ve smoked. LMS: great to see you back gorgeous. What will be will be, I truely believe.

Donna: Here's hoping!!

The Fat Girl: Firstly, change your name to something less derogatory darling!! and thanks, I found that one too :)

Kathrynoh: It's a bit silly, I can understand if they were testing for use on the spot but the levels they test for are too low, it includes past smoking and I think that discriminates against those that decide to give up and apply for a job.

Cranky: Yeah, thanks for that really useful information. Bwwaahhhaaahhhaaa

KittyMeow: Hello there!! That was great info and the websites were brilliant. Top marks!!

Cazzie: Well here's hoping aye!! He is through the roof excited. Government jobs are great for training and progression so hopefully will give us some security.

Heidi: Thanks for the link and I'm feeling great about the slowly but surely weight loss. And I'm not dieting, that's the best thing!!

Chris: I knew you'd be a past pot smoker!!

Airlz: Comment or essay!! LOL, anytime sweets.

AKG: Thanks sweet, good to hear "real life" stories.

Lynise: Just wondering how much your friends hubby used to smoke before hand?? And how big is he, apparently metabolism has a lot to do with it because it stores in the fat cells!! Thanks for going to the effort to give me info, much appreciated.

Anne: Thanks chick, you need to invite me to see your blog :(

Yay for Blair!

The MJ question's answer (here in Oz anyway) is 2 weeks. At our workplace the screenings are conducted with a tolerance level that means most people who smoke only occasionally are only pinged if they have smoked a fair bit, and recently.

These tolerance levels also allow for other prescription medication (including the pill and aspirin) which can influence a sample, so even if you are pinged, they will go over your medical history.

I wouldn't worry too much!

I am so so so happy to see you guys got some good news, You with your weight loss and Blair with his job. It's about time your luck turned, here's to a much better 2009!

Hi Jules,

My friends Hubby is tall and thin. I would guess at around 6'1 tall and approx 78kg (approx). I'm just guessing though as he looks about the same build as my brother whose 6'1 and 78kg.

As Janene has said, the info on-line is not totally straight forward as it depends on so many factors, so guess its very much a wait and see situation.

Hope things start to improve for you guys soon.

LOL @ the only way is up - then you started talking about your weight loss! But obviously in that regard the only way is DOWN - well done!

I would think Blair would be safe given the time that's passed. After all this is the break you guys so rightly deserve - congrats!

I've known several that have gotten by the test...by flushing it away. I'll give the cousin a call and find out what it is?

I'm hoping and wishing all comes out fabulously for you.

It'll be fine...for now lots of water and work outs...sweat it out.

Ciao and take care sweets..

Pot smoker hey?? Well.... I'm not your friend anymore!!

I think everything (regarding the test) is related to height & body mass Jules. Personally, after 13 days, I reckon they'd have to have a pretty detailed test to pick the spliff up. I really do wish Blair all the best & hope things fall into place, plus well done girl for getting nearly another kilo off :-)

I don't drink, but enjoy the occasional joint. I wish it was available here!!

You've surely received enough advise so i'll not add to the plethora! Hope everything turns out ok, it would be shit if he fails the test for a bloody smoke over two weeks ago.
I'm crossing everything for you guys. Great loss too by the way!
